Blog of Horror Reviewed Siberian Hellhole by Michael Mulvihill 2013
Author Michael Mulvihill sent me a copy of his work Siberian Hellhole, and I got intrigued at the idea behind his book. I had read a brief synopsis of the book on a few sites, just to get an idea about the book’s plot. I started reading, and what I got was a well crafted supernatural horror yarn that is poetically written and tells a bone chilling story. At least that is what I felt throughout while reading Siberian Hellhole. Tobias has recently moved away from Moscow to a small village where he works as a guard. Unknowingly to him, his cabin is above the entrance to Hell where lurks zombies, vampires and demons. That’s enough to grab the diehard horror reader’s attention. At the heart of the story is dealing with Christianity as well as political changes in post Soviet Russia. While using those elements, Mulvihill has crafted a tale that is quite dark, and for readers looking for a richly detailed work that blends different elements into one book, Siberian Hellhole is that book.
Siberian Hellhole is a different book, one that tries to break new ground and is inspired by telling a compelling story that can be appreciated by any genre fans due to the fact that Mulvihill is a passionate writer who has a clear understanding of the genre. This is how horror should be. When most authors try to rehash the same old ideas, it’s great to see authors like Michael Mulvihill create something new and refreshing.
Michael Mulvihill writes with passion and with a creative perspective that we rarely see in most mainstream authors working today. In many ways Siberian Hellhole is a far better read than most books in the genre and if you’re tired of the same old uninspired horror tales, then this is a must read that is sure to chill you to the bone. Siberian Hellhole is an easy book to read that is sure to entertain you. This is a page turner, one that Mulvihill should definitely feel proud of. With this first novel, Michael writes with a style that combines elements of faith with straight forward horror. With that in mind, this is what makes Siberian Hellhole work. This is a great book read that is beautifully written, though out and has a very good concept. With that being said, this book deserves to be discovered by a wider readership because Michael Mulvihill is a talented writer who clearly understanding of the horror genre and he most definitely proves that with this book.
Even though faith is a big part of the book, you don’t have to be a religious person to enjoy this work. Anyone that loves to read well constructed horror tales should read this book.
Michael Mulvihill is an author that boasts a wonderful talent and he clearly has a bright future as a writer. Siberian Hellhole is an exciting and engaging first novel that is hard to stop reading. You can clearly see that Mulvihill has a love of storytelling because this is a work that is simply beautifully written and evokes fear and asks questions. This is a book that deserves to be read and cherished by genre fans, and if you do across this novel, I heavily recommend that you read it.
Michael Mulvihill deserves to be widely read and he is a wonderful writer that can keep you reading till the final pages. For a first novel, this is quite impressive and I can’t wait to see what Mulvihill writes next.
